Natural Language Processing for Health

11 February 2020 | 18:00 - 19:30

£3
Natural Language Processing (NLP) – a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – focuses on the automated analysis and understanding of human language by machines. NLP in health promises to support knowledge discovery about drugs, aid clinical diagnosis and enhance early detection of disease outbreaks. However key problems remain to be solved. In this talk, Dr Collier will review current technologies before going on to provide insights into some of the linguistic and technical issues that make understanding the language of health so challenging for AI. He will focus in particular on the Voice of the Patient – the often colloquial language that patients use to describe their own conditions in social media and forums.
